NEWBURY, OH, Aug. 17, 2007 -- Kinetico Incorporated, an industry leader in countercurrent ion exchange technology, announces its water softening systems using the 2-inch Hydrus™ commercial valve were awarded the WQA Gold Seal. All six water softening systems passed the stringent requirements of the NSF/ANSI 44 standard for "Residential Cation Exchange Water Softeners."

These Hydrus systems are the first commercial systems to be certified by WQA to meet the NSF/ANSI requirements, including structural integrity, extraction, service flow and exchange efficiency.

"The ability to pass the extensive extraction and structural integrity testing upholds Kinetico's decision to manufacture the Hydrus valve using state-of-the-art thermoplastics instead of brass," states Derek French, North American sales manager for Kinetico. WQA certification also validates Kinetico's position that a 2-inch multi-ported valve designed specifically for countercurrent regeneration can achieve salt efficiencies that were previously unthinkable in commercial/industrial applications.

The six softening configurations using the Hydrus commercial valve were certified to deliver salt efficiencies greater than 4000 grains per pound at flow rates ranging from 45 to 82 gallons per minute. "A Hydrus system with a 42-inch diameter tank provides an exchange of 4,300 grains per pound of salt. We're very proud of these results," French adds.

The Hydrus valve is a multi-port control valve for filtration and ion exchange applications. Hydrus applies Kinetico's expertise in non-electric thermoplastic design into a 2-inch configuration for the needs of larger commercial and industrial applications. Designed from the ground up to exploit the advantages of countercurrent regeneration, the valve is capable of achieving higher efficiencies and better effluent quality than the standard co-current ion exchange process.

Headquartered in Newbury, Ohio, U.S.A., Kinetico is a leading manufacturer of water treatment systems. An extensive network of Kinetico dealers serving residential and light commercial customers has helped more than a million people in nearly 100 countries experience the benefits of better water. Since 1970, Kinetico has prided itself on creating unique water treatment systems that have served customers in an expanding variety of residential, commercial, industrial and municipal applications. The company also has offices and facilities in the United Kingdom, Canada, France and Denmark.
