SAN JOSE, CA, MARCH 26, 2020 -- A worker at San Jose’s wastewater treatment plant has tested positive for COVID-19.
The San Jose Mercury News reported the employee is a janitor working as part of a contract company at the San Jose-Santa Clara Regional Wastewater Facility, which serves 1.5 million people in San Jose and seven other cities in the area.
Following the news, plant staff brought in a cleaning crew to disinfet areas where the ill worker worked, and isolated employees that may have come into contact with the worker.
In addition, 17 employees were placed in self-quarantine as a result of the positive test results. Other plant operators have been working in small group shifts to limit contact with one another and follow social distancing guidelines.
