BELLINGHAM, WA, Sept. 6, 2005 -- The International Society for Optical Engineering (SPIE) has issued a call for papers for its Defense & Security Symposium, which will be held April 17-21 at the Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center in Kissimmee, Fla., near Orlando.

This year, SPIE also will host "OpticsEast: Sensors and Photonics for Applications in Industry, Life Sciences, and Communications," which is to take place Oct. 23-26 at the Marriott Copley Place in Boston. It's the organization's 50th anniversary event.

A special session for the 2006 event is being coordinated by the Hach Company's Dan Kroll on related water security technology issues. All new technologies are encouraged to submit an abstract for the conference. For more information, go to http://spie.org/Conferences/Calls/06/dss/dss06_Call.pdf.
