GENEVA, Switzerland - World Water Day has been officially kicked off with a key message about the power of water and jobs.
It is estimated that around three in four jobs are dependent on water, or managing its flow from source to consumers.
In a video message for World Water Day, Guy Ryder, ILO director-general and chair of UN-Water, highlights the situation of the some 1.5 billion people who work in water, many of whom are not recognized for the work they do, or protected by basic labour rights:
