BRYN MAWR, PA, Aug. 2, 2011 -- Wendell F. Holland, Esq., a partner at the law firm of Saul Ewing, has been appointed to the Aqua America Board of Directors.
Holland brings a wealth of utility experience and knowledge to the Aqua America Board, having served as Chairman of the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PA PUC), Vice President of American Water Works Company Inc., as well as various leadership positions for the National Association of Regulatory Commissioners (NARUC).
He was actively involved nationally in NARUC's Water Committee and a strong proponent of implementing industry best practices around the country. As PA PUC Chairman, Holland oversaw the implementation of three significant pieces of legislation in Pennsylvania, which triggered comprehensive and substantial changes to renewable energy, telecommunications reform and consumer services reform.
Aqua America Chairman Nicholas DeBenedictis said, "Wendell's experience on both sides of the utility business as a regulator and as a utility executive provides him with a comprehensive knowledge of how the utility industry works. When you add to that his years of experience in utility law, there is no question of the wealth of knowledge he will bring to our Board."
Holland, who is licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania, New York and Florida, received a B.S. at Fordham University before receiving his J.D. at Rutgers University School of Law, where he was recognized as a Distinguished Alumnus. He received the "Annual Award for Excellence" in 1994 from the Pennsylvania Chapter of the National Association of Water Companies, and the Whitney M. Young Jr. Service Award from the Cradle of Liberty Council of the Boy Scouts in 2007. He also served on the Board of Directors of Allegheny Energy (now part of FirstEnergy) and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Bryn Mawr Trust Company.
