American Water CIO honored as information technology leader

VOORHEES, NJ, Dec. 3, 2009 -- American Water Works Company Inc., the largest investor-owned U.S. water and wastewater utility company, announced today that vice president and chief information officer Emily Ashworth was honored with the 2009 SIM Leadership Award. The award, presented by the Philadelphia Chapter of the Society for Information Management (SIM), was given to Ashworth during a gala dinner on December 2 in Philadelphia.

The SIM Leadership Award is presented annually to an information technology leader in the region who has demonstrated outstanding technology achievements in business innovation, leadership and value. Previous winners have included Chris Duffy, CIO of Peirce College (2008); William H. Morgan, former CIO of the Philadelphia Stock Exchange (2007); and Autumn R. Bayles, senior vice president of strategic operations and technology, Tasty Baking Company (2006).

The 2009 SIM Leadership Award was presented to Ashworth in part for her leadership in establishing My H2O Online, a new self-service website for residential customers across American Water's 20 state subsidiaries, which introduced a completely new complement of technology infrastructure to the company.
