RICHMOND HILL, ON, Canada, Feb. 11, 2009 -- Dr. Robert Moses, President and CEO of PCI Geomatics, a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the Open Geospatial Consortium, has been elected by the board to chair the consortium's recently chartered Global Advisory Council (GAC).

The GAC is formally a committee of the OGC board. It is comprised of OGC directors and select leaders of the global geospatial community chosen to represent the requirements of regions or communities currently underserved by the Consortium's consensus process. Specifically, the GAC is intended to be a forum for development of authentic outreach and participation strategies to ensure the continued growth and development of the consortium process and to support critical Global Spatial Data Infrastructure (GSDI) initiatives around the world.

"I am very appreciative of this appointment that David Schell and the OGC Board have entrusted to me, and I'm confident that the Council will showcase the benefits of geospatial interoperability to the world," said Dr. Robert Moses. "In this complex world of global warming, ecosystem degradation and compromised public safety, all nations must work together to solve these problems; and the most effective way to coordinate a response is via the sharing of geospatial information."

Dr. Moses will bring in key people from the world geospatial community as honorary Global Advisory Council members to provide strategic guidance regarding how the OGC can be most useful and best positioned to promote the interoperability of geospatial information and services throughout the world.

"We expect that under Dr. Moses' leadership, the Council will grow significantly and offer opportunities for OGC's Directors, staff and membership to receive valuable counsel regarding our efforts to enfranchise the global community in the OGC, regardless of resource contributions, in the interest of universal involvement in the OGC's consensus standards process," explained David Schell, chairman of the OGC. "Dr. Moses has been with the OGC from the beginning, he has worked successfully for many years of at the intersection of government and technology, and he has impressive international credentials. All of the OGC's stakeholders are fortunate that he has accepted this role."

The OGC® is an international consortium of more than 365 companies, government agencies, research organizations, and universities participating in a consensus process to develop publicly available geospatial standards.

PCI Geomatics is a world leading developer of software and solutions for geospatial imaging applications.
