CAYUGA, ON, Canada, Sept. 9, 2010 -- After a competitive procurement to seek a partner who would provide the best service to taxpayers, Haldimand County selected Veolia Water North America to operate and maintain the County's surface water treatment systems under a 5-year public-private partnership that will serve approximately 10,000 residents.
Valued at approximately $8.5 million, the 5-year contract engages Veolia Water to operate and maintain the County's water treatment systems, transmission lines and booster stations. Per the contract, Veolia Water will manage approximately 13 local employees and the County will retain all water assets and control over water rates. Additionally, Haldimand County will continue to manage its distribution system.
"We're very excited to be able to provide our services to residents," said Duane Forth, project manager of Haldimand County wastewater treatment facilities. "We've worked very hard to provide top level service to the County. The water project is a continuation of that record."
Veolia Water is a longstanding partner to Haldimand County, and has operated and managed its wastewater system for 13 years. Working together, Veolia Water and the County have achieved a perfect safety record since the start of that contract in 1997. The new contract for the water system extends this partnership.
