Universal Asset Management (UAM) has completed installation of a hydrogen sulfide scrubber at the Nevada, MO, water treatment plant. The first of its kind in Missouri, the packed bed counter flow scrubber removes hydrogen sulfide, which has caused a sulfurous smell to linger in and around the water plant for the past 18 years.

The City of Nevada (Nevada) retained UAM to design, build, procure equipment and provide a long-term service contract on this project. UAM collaborated with Integrated Environmental Services and Midwest Environmental Services and key industry specialists on the project.

"Universal Asset Management's unique ability to provide a long-term service contract covering the performance of all of the system's mechanical elements backed by a major insurance carrier was essential to the city," said Craig Hubler, Nevada's City Manager.

Nevada chose UAM for its ability to apply its water and wastewater industry expertise in providing a solution that included its UAM Protection plan. The UAM Protection Plan assures that treatment plant equipment will operate within the manufacturer's specifications for the life of the service contract. The warranty plan includes equipment repair/replacement, verification of the performance of required maintenance, and system performance in reducing emissions. The UAM Protection Plan enables facilities to adopt new technologies without incurring risks or added costs associated with system breakdowns or performance failures.

"Nevada's project is the first practical application of UAM's fully underwritten and financially secured service contract product in the United States," said Gary Lee, CEO of Universal Asset Management. "We developed this product to respond to the demand for increased equipment reliability among municipalities and water and wastewater utilities. This project will serve as a template for similar equipment intensive infrastructure projects across the nation."

Universal Asset Management, a company focused on the water and wastewater industry, originated the concept of financially backed service contracts and equipment for water and wastewater facilities. The company's Protection Plan enables manufacturers, contractors, and customers to manage the risk associated with owning and operating water and wastewater equipment for up to 10 years. UAM program services include extensions of manufacturer warranties for up to 10 years, wrapping of multiple equipment warranties under a single service contract umbrella and complete administration of manufacturer supplied warranties.
