LOUGHBOROUGH, UK, May 11, 2005 -- Pudong Veolia Water (PVW), of Shanghai, China, has selected Advantica's SynerGEE® Water simulation software and Subsystem Management Module (SMM) to further improve the operational and customer supply standards of its water distribution system in the Pudong New Area.

PVW has used a strategic model since September 2002. To further develop its GIS integration and improve the performance and accuracy of large models, PVW selected SynerGEE to support its fully detailed hydraulic and water quality analysis. PVW will develop and calibrate an all-mains model of the distribution system serving the Pudong New Area and implement information technology processes required to maintain the model using its geographic information system (GIS) and customer information system (CIS).

"The calibrated model will support operational and planning activities surrounding the implementation of zoning, leakage reduction and system operation improvement through pump optimization," said Laurent Pelletier, PVW Network Division Deputy Manager.

"We welcome Pudong Veolia Water to the growing number of utilities and consultants worldwide choosing SynerGEE for their modeling needs," said Advantica's Head of Water Antony Green.

The Pudong New Area is a region of Shanghai located on the eastern side of the Huangpu River. Pudong covers more than 500 square kilometers and has a population of more than 1.9 million people. The water distribution system is over 2,000 kilometers long and supports 800,000 customers. Growth in the region is anticipated to be 10% annually through the foreseeable future.

PVW is a joint venture between Pudong Municipality and Veolia Water, a leading global provider of water and wastewater services for municipal authorities, industrial companies and consumers with operations in more than 100 countries.
