World Wireless Communications announced that the company has released its Echelon LonWorks network interface for its X-traWeb AMR system.

GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo., Sept. 30, 2002 -- World Wireless Communications, a developer of wired and wireless Internet systems, technology and products, announced that the company has released its Echelon LonWorks network interface for its X-traWeb AMR system.

"By integrating the Echelon LonTalk protocol and a LonWorks interface into the X-Gate device, we have given utilities and building managers the ability to gather meter data from a campus or large building using their existing LonWorks infrastructure," stated David Singer, chief executive officer of World Wireless Communications, Inc. "By adding the LonWorks interface to our constantly expanding list of communications mediums such as CDMA, TDMA, GPRS, AMPS, PSTN and Globalstar, we are enabling our customers to choose the most cost effective data backhaul method available to them at each individual location".

The World Wireless Communications AMR system is comprised of two main components: X-Gate and X-Node. The X-Node mounts under the glass of the electric meter and provides a mechanism by which meter rotations can be counted and the data archived and uploaded to the X-Gate at user configurable time periods. The X-Gate provides a data concentration point for hundreds of X-Nodes and a means to connect to the Internet for daily uploads of a batch of meters to the server.

Echelon is a supplier of infrastructure hardware and software in the device networking market. Since 1988, the LonWorks system has been adopted by thousands of device and system manufacturers. Echelon device networking technology enables end-users to remotely connect, monitor, control, and diagnose intelligent devices. Today, LonWorks networks are the leading de facto standard for networking everyday devices.
