Washington, DC, November 16, 2001 — The Automated Meter Reading (AMR) Taskforce of the United Telecom Council (UTC) announces the launch of its newest work product, the AMR Web Portal.

This new resource includes a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), AMR vendor company profiles and additional AMR links on the Internet.

"As automated meter reading technology becomes more commercially deployed by utilities, it is imperative that resources exist for utilities to understand the technologies and methodologies," explains John J. Cull, Chairman of the Automation Technology Section and Coordinator of Relay and Telecom Operations for National Grid USA Service Company.

The Web Portal is the result of collaboration of representatives from utilities, AMR vendors, and outside industry experts. The AMR FAQs serve as a basic tutorial for utilities seeking to deploy AMR technologies. The questions were compiled by AMR Task Force participants and answered by Howard Scott, author of The Scott Report, and an expert in AMR deployments around the world.

The vendor company profiles serve as a guide for companies providing specific technologies and services.

The AMR links serve as a supplementary resource on automated meter reading. They include companies that have installed AMR systems, research organizations and metering web sites.

Founded in 1948 and until recently known as the Utilities Telecommunications Council, UTC is now a global federation of direct business members and affiliated trade associations representing over 10,000 organizations serving all corners of the world and virtually every community in the North America.

Working together with its technology partners and other corporate telecom/IT users, UTC's ongoing mission is to create a favorable business, regulatory and technical environment in which its members and stakeholders will thrive. UTC does this through a variety of advocacy, regulatory, technological, information and education programs.
