Datamatic's Mosaic selected for conservation efforts in Georgia community
PLANO, TX, Aug. 29, 2007 -- Datamatic Ltd., a leading supplier of flexible data collection solutions, was contracted to sole source the new MOSAIC hybrid automated meter reading system for the City of Tybee Island Water and Sewer Department in Georgia. Datamatic will supply and install 3,000 MOSAIC-class FIREFLY AMR units to improve water conservation and quality control among residences and businesses in the tourist community. MOSAIC is the industry's first universally compatible AMR system capable of reading water, gas and electric meters via handheld, mobile and full mesh network collection platforms from the same endpoint.
Ken Kercher, CEO of Datamatic said, "Tybee Island community officials are dedicated to helping their residents and visitors save money and protect their environmental resources for the future. By using our MOSAIC AMR technology, the city will receive the water conservation results they are seeking, streamline billing and limit physical labor, which saves time and money."
Datamatic will start the process by testing 500 FIREFLY units in strategic locations throughout Tybee Island. The other 2,500 units will then be installed to achieve 100 percent coverage in the city. Tybee Island is located in Chatham County, just 18 miles east of Savannah, Ga. The island resort town welcomes over 700,000 tourists annually, mostly during the spring and summer months.
"After setting our goals for water conservation, we found that Datamatic's AMR systems were the most advanced, efficient products in the industry," stated John Redmond, CFO at the City of Tybee Island. "Robert Hanvey, our Datamatic sales representative, has been extremely easy to work with and he's committed to helping us reach full Datamatic coverage by early Spring 2008 to accommodate the influx of visitors to the island."
Datamatic provides flexible data collection solutions to utilities worldwide. The company's innovative ideas virtually created an industry when it installed the first electronic meter reading system in 1980. For more than a quarter of a century, Datamatic has been an innovation leader in the design, implementation and support of advanced data collection solutions for water, gas and electric utilities.
