PITTSBURGH, Sept. 30, 2005 (PRNewswire-FirstCall) -- Michael Baker Corp. today announced the creation of a new operating unit, Baker Consulting Services Group, and named William E. Begley to head the unit.
Baker Consulting Services is being established to expand the scope of services Baker traditionally provides to its clients. It will become involved with clients and projects in both the company's Engineering and Energy business segments at the strategic or early conceptual phases by providing technical and strategic advice and expertise on the best direction or options to follow. These Baker "consultants" will then make recommendations on the optimum technology, financing and general feasibility to support a project and its development. Baker Consulting Services will also be instrumental in the identification of opportunities to leverage the combined skills of the company's two segments on behalf of a particular client or clients and their projects.
"Baker is dedicated to be able to provide services along the complete life cycle of our clients' infrastructure and assets," Donald P. Fusilli Jr., president and CEO, said. "Baker Consulting Services allows us to engage our clients at the very early stage of this cycle and to stay involved throughout the project and beyond. Strategically, Baker Consulting Services will enhance our ability to maximize our growth, optimize our profitability, and innovate in the way that we deliver our broad range of professional services."
William E. Begley comes to Baker from Stone and Webster Management Consultants Inc., where he served as president and chief executive officer and directed the consulting, financial advisory, and restructuring and privatization leadership of the company's global energy and utility practices. In addition, this organization worked with other divisions of the company, including transportation and infrastructure, on project procurement. Previously, he was director of International Energy Consulting for PricewaterhouseCoopers, served as an independent consultant, and held finance and marketing positions with Salomon, Inc., and British Petroleum. He holds a bachelor's degree from St. Michael's College in Vermont. He currently resides with his wife, Trish, and their two children in Houston.
"We are pleased to have Bill Begley join our senior management team and accept the challenge of building this new business for Baker," Fusilli said. "His vast experience and understanding of the Engineering and Energy industries and the importance of the up-front consultant role will benefit our company and our clients in a significant way."
