DANBURY, CT, Feb. 5, 2008 -- FuelCell Energy Inc.™ announces that the company's Direct FuelCell 1500MA® (DFC1500MA®) power plant has been certified to Rule 21 standards in the state of California. Rule 21, also known as the Simplified Interconnect Certification, allows the purchaser of a Rule 21 Certified power generation system involving a grid interconnect to avoid the normal delay caused by utility field-testing of the unit's protective functions. This important milestone will result in reduced costs and a more streamlined installation process for future DFC1500MA customers.

The DFC1500MA produces 1.2 megawatts of secure, Ultra-Clean power 24/7 with an electrical power generation efficiency of 47% and an overall cogeneration efficiency of up to 80%. The DFC1500MA offers the flexibility to operate on biofuels -- gases from wastewater treatment, food processing, and landfills -- in addition to commonly available fuels such as natural gas, ethanol, diesel and coal gas. The system has negligible pollutant emissions of NOX and SOX and virtually no CO2 greenhouse gas emissions.

"The Rule 21 certification reflects our commitment to industry standards that make fuel cell solutions more attractive to the customer" says William Karambelas, Vice President of Business Development -- Western Region for FuelCell Energy. "We are constantly looking for ways to help improve the affordability of our Ultra-Clean power generation solutions."

FuelCell Energy is a world leader in the development and production of stationary fuel cells for commercial, industrial, municipal, and utility customers.
