BROOMFIELD, CO, April 25, 2007 -- The Awwa Research Foundation (AwwaRF) in cooperation with the California Energy Commission has selected MWH Americas to identify and document international desalination related research and development (R&D) efforts and compile them in an user-friendly, readily searchable database.

The global desalination community is widely dispersed and informally organized around numerous specific disciplines. MWH has assembled a team of internationally recognized researchers from the USA, Asia, Australia, Europe and Middle East, who will reach out to the desalination community to collect meaningful data from each region and discipline to develop a database that consolidates R&D efforts undertaken since the publication of DESALNET (AWWA 2002).

The research project will be under the direction of Principal Investigator, Dr. Russell Ford. Supporting this effort will be the Project Engineer, Celine Trussell; Research Coordinator, Tom Pankratz; End-User Needs Assessment Committee Coordinator, Dawn Guendert and Peer Review Committee Chairperson, Dr. Samer Adham.

This database will provide utilities and all interested parties a resource for efficiently addressing their need for information that could help them improve the energy efficiency, reliability and costs of their desalination facilities. MWH will utilize a web-based database system, that will allow for updating the information as needed and allow users to access information without the need to download or obtain new software.

MWH will kick-off the project in January 2007 and the database is scheduled for completion in late 2008. Any individual, organization or private company that would to have their research included in the database should contact Celine Trussell at 858-751-1205 or via email at [email protected]. Additionally, entities interested in submitting information for this project may go to the website: www.desalinationresearch.net

With headquarters in Broomfield, CO, MWH (www.mwhglobal.com) is a private, employee-owned firm with more than 6,000 team members worldwide. The company provides water, wastewater, energy, natural resource, program management, consulting and construction services to industrial, municipal and government clients in the Americas, Europe, Middle East, India, Asia and the Pacific Rim.
