PLANO, TEXAS -- SPMR, LLC (SPMR) has announced that six more water utilities across the Southwest have joined the company’s Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) pilot program featuring the CYCLOPS®, an innovative, two-way AMI water solution that delivers fast and cost-effective automation of virtually any meter, direct read or encoded output. The latest public and private utilities that recently requested to join the SPMR pilot program are located across Texas and in Oklahoma.

“The ease of installation, low cost and reliability of our technology appeals to private and public water utility managers,” said Andy Kercher, president of SPMR. “Our CYCLOPS system offers the low-risk, high-reward solution that savvy managers need to migrate towards a more reliable and cost-effective AMI system. In just a few weeks, the number of water utilities seeking a better solution, at a cost that meets tight budgets, has risen dramatically. Fortunately, our production and technology are scalable to meet the growing demand for the CYCLOPS technology.”

CYCLOPS is the easiest and least expensive way that a water utility can immediately realize the benefits of AMI. For as little as 50 percent of the cost of traditional meter reading systems, SPMR’s CYCLOPS technology works seamlessly on existing meters to avoid the added expense and time of replacing the existing infrastructure. A utility’s return-on-investment can be immediate since the entire system can be installed by utility staff.

“Both private and public utilities across the Southwest are discovering the value, in terms of time and money, of our CYCLOPS system,” said Kercher. “We are beginning pilot programs with public utilities in Nassau Bay, River Oaks, Roma and Weimar, Texas, as well as Choctaw, Oklahoma. A private Texas utility operator, Hocutt, Inc., is also planning a program. It’s clear that CYCLOPS represents a new era in AMI.”

The CYCLOPS Meter Interface Unit (MIU) is available as a Camera End for automating direct read meters or a Wire End for attaching to encoded output meters. Each unit transmits data securely over existing cellular networks rather than proprietary network hardware. All data is sent at night over existing cellular infrastructure and posted to the CYCLOPS Web Portal for detailed reporting, validation, and ultimately, export to billing.  Each unit can be remotely configured for reading/photo intervals and their transmit frequency. This design eliminates the need for onsite programming, saving time and money.

Utilities interested in participating in a pilot program with SPMR’s CYCLOPS technology can request an online demonstration at https://www.smartphonemeterreading.com.
