SASSENHEIM, The Netherlands – Water technology company Voltea has partnered with Liquid Purification Engineers International (LPE) in a bid to enter the water reuse and desalination markets in Thailand and wider Asia.

Thai company LPE purchased the company’s electro-desalination membrane capacitive deionization (CapDI©) technology following a visit to its international office in Sassenheim, The Netherlands.

Bryan Brister, CEO of Voltea, said: "Voltea's collaboration with LPE marks a significant expansion in the Asian market for CapDI. We are very happy to have such a strong regional leader as a partner."

CapDI is a two-step process wherein water flows between electrodes. The electrode surfaces are separated from the water by ion-selective membranes that allow positive or negative ions to pass.

Up to 90% of treated water is recovered during this process, the company said, which is a big step forward in efficient water use.

Towards the end of September the company secured €6 million in investment to help accelerate the development of its technology.
