The Urban Water Management conference, a new conference and exhibition designed to cover all aspects of water management in an urban setting, will be held March 30-April 2, 2008, in Louisville, KY. The event is being organized by PennWell Corp., publisher of WaterWorld Magazine.
The goal for the conference is to help cities develop an integrated approach to management of water in an urban setting. It will provide an overview of management strategies and an in-depth look at the various technologies and techniques for controlling urban water runoff.
Stormwater management is a growing market impacting virtually every municipality in the country. Driven by stormwater regulations and concerns about water quality issues, cities are struggling with how to handle this relatively new responsibility. Many are creating stand-alone stormwater utilities; others delegate responsibility to their public works departments and/or their wastewater treatment divisions.
While a significant portion of the Urban Water Management event will be dedicated to stormwater treatment and control, it will also touch on all water management issues faced by cities, industry and commercial operations, including runoff from streets, lawns and commercial properties, protection and restoration of urban streams and ponds, steps for controlling sewer overflows, monitoring and reporting requirements, etc.
The Urban Water Management Conference will include sessions focused on best management practices for stormwater management and control, mapping and modeling of stream flows, low impact development, green infrastructure, regulatory compliance and more. A special “mega session” will feature a panel discussion on establishing and funding of stormwater utilities.
