SACRAMENTO, CA, March 1, 2005 (PRNewswire) -- Jones & Stokes today announced that it acquired Mobrand Biometrics Inc. (MBI), an 11-person environmental consulting firm based in the Seattle area. MBI will remain fully operational at its present staffing level and will operate as Mobrand-Jones & Stokes under the leadership of its founders Lars E. Mobrand and Katie Mobrand.

This is the second major acquisition within the last three months for the Sacramento-based Jones & Stokes. In December, Jones & Stokes acquired Mooney & Associates, a 35-person environmental consulting firm in San Diego.

"The acquisition of MBI is an important part of our strategy to grow and expand throughout the Pacific Northwest and in all our regions," said John W. Cowdery, president and CEO of Jones & Stokes. "We have added significantly to our business presence in every major metropolitan area along the entire West Coast."

In 2003 Jones & Stokes acquired Myra Frank Associates in Los Angeles. Two years before that, the Sacramento-based firm acquired Beak Environmental Consultants Inc. in Portland, Ore., bringing a strong new complement to its Bellevue, Wash., office that anchors the Pacific Northwest Region.

MBI now adds its reputation, built over a quarter century, for developing practical, science-based approaches for watershed planning and fish hatcheries management.

MBI is best known for its acclaimed EDT Method (Ecosystem Diagnosis and Treatment,) a set of cutting-edge analytical tools used to design and evaluate restoration strategies for streams and watersheds. "By joining together with Jones & Stokes, we can now extend the application of EDT to improve watershed planning and natural resources planning throughout Jones & Stokes' service areas," adds Katie Mobrand.

MBI's clients include the Bonneville Power Administration, the cities of Seattle and Portland, several Washington counties and Native American tribes, and the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, among others.

"Our watershed planning experience and analytical tools perfectly complement Jones & Stokes' strong track record in client service, water resources planning and management, and ecosystem restoration design and monitoring," said MBI president Lars Mobrand. "We are very excited about our future as part of the Jones & Stokes organization."

Jones & Stokes (www.jonesandstokes.com) is a multidisciplinary, employee-owned environmental consulting firm headquartered in Sacramento. They provide a wide range of natural resource management planning services to public agency and private clients throughout the West. The firm also has California offices in San Francisco, San Jose, Oakland, Los Angeles, Irvine, Temecula, San Diego, and Bakersfield, as well as in Portland, Ore., Bellevue, Wash., and Salt Lake City, Utah.
