Oct. 29, 2015 -- Neptune Benson announced that its ETS-UV disinfection technology has completed a rigorous operational trial and review of the Validation Report by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and has also been selected for an NWRI validated project in Southern California at the Hollywood Casino.
Ultraviolet (UV) disinfection effectively deactivates the threat of waterborne pathogens and has become an important component to ensure public drinking water is healthy and free from harmful microorganisms. These systems are being installed into municipal drinking water facilities to effectively deactivate Cryptosporidium and Giardia -- both organisms that are tolerant to chlorine.
EPA Operational Trial
The EPA has issued a Special Exception Permit to the City of Moline approving the use of the ETS-UV system for 2.5 Cryptosporidium and 2.0 Giardia inactivation to enhance the quality and safety of Moline's drinking water supply.
In order to receive the credit and fully comply with the EPA drinking water regulations, the city is required to operate and maintain the UV system in accordance with permit requirements and submit associated monitoring reports to the IEPA each month.
NWRI Validated Project
Accordingly, the Hollywood Casino project is Design/Build, and the ETS-UV system is validated to the NWRI UV Guidelines for 2003 and the 2012 revision, following extended testing at a wastewater facility in California by Carollo Engineers.
Each reactor has been approved by the California State Water Resources Control Board, Division of Drinking Water and is now being incorporated in water reclamation facilities across the country.
