TOPSFIELD, MA, Apr. 10, 2012 -- The International Desalination Association (IDA) announced that applications are now being accepted for the 2012 Channabasappa Memorial Scholarship.

Through this program, IDA awards scholarship grants of up to 10,000 USD per calendar year to one or more graduate students studying engineering or science in preparation for a career in desalination or water technologies.

The goal of the Channabasappa Memorial Scholarship is to encourage engineers and scientists to further their education in subjects related to desalination and water reuse. The scholarship provides financial assistance to graduate students who have been accepted into a graduate program of doctoral studies and who intend to pursue a desalination and water reuse related research thesis.

To be eligible for the Scholarship, candidates must be current members of IDA, have graduated from an accredited university, and be from the top 10% of their class in science or engineering. Applicants are considered on the basis of undergraduate transcripts, references and motivation for a career in desalination or water technologies. Candidates must also exhibit leadership and achievement potential. Four references are required, with at least one from an IDA Director or member. The applications are reviewed by the IDA Scholarship Committee, which has at least two IDA members from universities.

The deadline for applications is June 1. The submission must include evidence of other source or sources of funding to supplement this scholarship, admission to a post graduate program, past academic records and references. The recipient(s) will be announced in August.

To download an application, please visit the IDA website, www.idadesal.org. For further information about IDA's Scholarship program, contact Leslie Merrill at [email protected].
