June 13, 2003 -- On May 29, 2003, ASDWA hosted a web cast for state drinking water program staff to learn about training and outreach activities for small system security needs. More than 30 states registered for the three hour web cast entitled Small System Security Train-the-Trainer Strategies and Approaches: An Overview for State Drinking Water Program Staff.

Participants heard from the five nonprofit organizations (Maryland Center for Environmental Training, Water Environment Federation, National Rural Water Association, Rural Community Assistance Program, and National Environmental Services Center at West Virginia University) who have been awarded EPA grants to conduct security train-the-trainer sessions.

The trained trainers, in turn, will be working directly with "small" (3,300-50,000) systems nationwide to conduct vulnerability assessments, develop or revise emergency response plans, and evaluate security enhancements. Presenters spoke about their organization's proposed strategy, intended audience, training tools, training locations, and next steps.

At the web address below, you will find: ASDWA's background and overview presentation as well as individual presentations made by the five grant recipient organizations; brief biographical sketches for each of the presenters; and direct web links to each organization for further information.
