ALEXANDRIA, VA, Oct. 29, 2003 -- The Water Environment Federation (WEF), in cooperation with the Central States Water Environment Association and the Illinois Water Environment Association, announces the third annual TMDL 2003 Specialty Conference.
The 4-day conference, scheduled for November 16-19, 2003 at the Westin Michigan Avenue Chicago Hotel in Chicago, IL, is the best source for timely information on the TMDL program.
Co-chaired by Paul Freedman (Limno-Tech, Inc.) and Richard Schwer (DuPont Company), the conference includes 18 technical sessions and three workshops. Over 100 speakers will provide up-to-date information on technical requirements for developing TMDLs, new research (such as model development), advancements in water quality monitoring, and discuss the latest regulatory and policy issues.
The opening session on November 16 will feature Don Brady (Watershed Branch Chief in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Wetlands, Oceans, and Watersheds) who will discuss recent TMDL activities, new guidance documents, and potential changes to the regulations governing the TMDL program.
Following Brady, an expert panel including members of both the TMDL Federal Advisory Committee and National Research Committee, will discuss the progress made and challenges remaining since their Committees evaluated TMDL research needs and provided recommendations for program improvements in 1998 and 2001respectively.
Conference supporters include the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Association of State and Interstate Water Pollution Control Administrators, and the Advisory Committee on Water Information.
