GREENSBORO, NC, Aug. 18, 2006 -- CDM is developing an innovative industrial pollution control action plan for the city of Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, China, under the World Bank-funded Zhejiang urban environmental project (ZUEP). The contract was awarded by the Ningbo Leading Group, a local government agency responsible for all wastewater management projects in Ningbo.

During the 12-month initiative, which will support the sustainability and conservation goals of the ZUEP by enhancing waste management, CDM will assist the Ningbo and Zhenhai wastewater companies, Ningbo Environmental Protection Bureau, and other agencies with five key tasks in Ningbo, including:

-- A permitting system for industrial wastewater discharge
-- Industrial wastewater monitoring
-- Action plans to control industrial wastewater discharges
-- A water conservation program that will help reduce consumption by 50 percent by 2010
-- A catchment management plan to improve water quality in Dongqian Lake

"Successful project implementation will improve water quality in and around Ningbo and assist the wastewater companies in controlling industrial discharges to its sewers," said Chi Rong Huang, CDM country manager. "Additionally, with the cooperation of the many agencies involved in the project, the roles and responsibilities for each will be better defined, leading to environmental improvements for the citizens of Ningbo."
