IRVINE, CA, Jan. 16, 2006 -- UC Irvine Extension announces a new seminar, "Introduction to California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA)." The seminar is designed for professionals and members of public agencies, along with interested members of the public who seek a comprehensive overview of environmental planning and CEQA in California. The day-long class will be held on Thursday, February 9th, 2006 at the UCI Learning Center in Orange, CA, 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
This seminar will help students understand CEQA, California's most comprehensive environmental law, and will cover its legislative history, requirements, steps in the CEQA process, preparation of EIRs and judicial review of CEQA decisions. Participants will also explore the relationship between CEQA and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
The seminar will be taught by Kenneth M. Bogdan, J.D., an environmental planner and attorney with more than 16 years experience managing projects for Jones & Stokes, a consulting firm specializing in environmental planning and natural resource management. Bogdan specializes in analyzing issues regarding compliance with environmental laws and regulations, including CEQA and NEPA. He has presented numerous CEQA seminars, including participation in the CEQA panel of the 2005 Continuing Judicial Studies Program.
"CEQA's impact on development in California is enormous," said Bogdan. "This seminar will help professionals identify and resolve basic issues that arise in CEQA implementation, as well as intelligently discuss the relationship of CEQA to other laws, and understand the basic steps in the CEQA process."
