The American Water subsidiary hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the completion of the new water treatment facility in Mooresville, Ind., which will filter iron and manganese from the area’s groundwater source.

Indiana American Water, a subsidiary of American Water Company, hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate completion of a new $22 million water treatment facility in Mooresville, Ind.

“The lifeblood of any great community is high-quality drinking water,” says Indiana American Water President Matt Prine. “Mooresville has seen significant growth over the last several decades, and this investment will enable us to continue to meet those needs and significantly enhance water quality for our customers.”

The new treatment facility added filtration to remove iron and manganese from the area’s groundwater source; replaced an existing backup power generator and added a second generator to provide backup power capability for all of its wellfield pumps; added new pumping and disinfection equipment; and added a 500,000-gallon finished water storage tank. The facility will also recycle most of the water used to backwash filters on a regular basis.

The new treatment plant can provide approximately 3 million gallons of filtered drinking water and was constructed to be easily expanded as future demand requires additional capacity.

“These improvements are an important part of Mooresville’s plans to ensure that we offer a high quality of life for our residents and to allow us to continue to attract new residents and businesses to the area,” says Mooresville Town Council President Tom Warthen. “This project helps to assure the quantity, quality, and consistency of the water that Indiana American Water provides to their customers in the Civil Town of Mooresville.”

The treatment plant project utilized a design-build concept. The design team of Gannett Fleming and Reynolds Construction was responsible for designing and constructing the new treatment facility.

Indiana American Water’s Mooresville district serves approximately 4,000 customers or a population of more than 10,000 residents in the area.
