MUMBAI, India – Membrane technology company Hydranautics has launched two spiral wound reverse osmosis (RO) membranes for industrial and demanding municipal water and re-use applications.

The company has geared the RO membranes towards the treatment of difficult feed waters for municipal and industrial applications, which up to now required significant feed water pre-treatment.

First up is the CPA7-LD, the company’s sixth generation membrane, offering 99.8% salt rejection and 52 m3/day permeate flow.

“This unique membrane is designed to produce the lowest permeate TDS make-up water for power stations, semiconductor and pharmaceutical industries,” Hydranautics said. “It is also ideal for treating high TDS brackish water sources.”

Meanwhile, the second membrane - ESPA2-LD MAX - offers a 440 ft2 membrane area using a 34 mil thick feed spacer, which the company said is a “the first of its kind in the industry”.

Commenting on the ESPA2-LD MAX, the company said: “New projects can achieve savings in CAPEX due to a reduced number of membrane elements; alternatively, customers can design with the same number of elements as a conventional design, thereby reducing feed pressure and reducing energy consumption. For existing projects, simply replacing standard 400 ft2 membranes with ESPA2-LD MAX can increase plant capacity by 10%.”
