Dallas, TX, November 7, 2001 — TXU today received another land reclamation award from the U.S. Office of Surface Mining. TXU has now received similar national land reclamation awards for four years in a row.
"This award recognizes TXU's continuing dedication to land reclamation excellence," said TXU Director of Mining Ralph Dick. "We have reclaimed the land used for mining at our Monticello mine to better than original condition. This benefits our communities, our local economy and our environment."
This year's award specifically recognizes TXU's Monticello Mine in Mount Pleasant, TX for the creation of a reforested wetland area. Wetlands provide ecologically rich homes for birds, fish and other wildlife.

"This national recognition would not be possible without dedicated, environmentally conscious employees. They deserve our praise and our thanks."
The award, "Excellence in Surface Coal Mining Reclamation Award" is sponsored each year by the U.S. Department of the Interior's Office of Surface Mining (OSM), the agency responsible for regulating the environmental impacts of coal production. Entries were first screened by state coal mining regulatory agencies and OSM Field Offices, which forwarded state-level winners to OSM Headquarters for final judging. A panel of experts from OSM completed the final judging.
