AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands, May 27, 2011 -- A total of €1.2 million has been awarded by the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment to help develop wastewater recycling technology for agricultural use.
Technology supplier Voltea received the funding after completing a €50,000 feasibility study in 2010 with its CapDi technology to desalinate wastewater.
The funding will be used to build a full scale treatment line, featuring CapDi technology, which will desalinate 5-10 cubic meters per hour of effluentfrom the Harnaschpolder Wastewater Treatment Plant near Delft. Desalinated water will be reused for the irrigation of local greenhouses.
The facility is designed to coincide with new restrictions which limit farmers in their use of surface water for irrigation.
Michiel Lensink, CEO of Voltea, said: "Water re-use is a major trend in the water industry and this project will give Voltea the opportunity to demonstrate that our CapDI technology is one of the most efficient technologies for the desalination of brackish water."
