CHATSWORTH, CA, USA, 21 September 2009 - On heels of sales for a large wastewater treatment plant in Brazil and offshore platforms in Mexico, leading global clean technology manufacturer of microturbine energy systems wins an order for two C800 MicroTurbine systems for a new 10-story building in Bogota, Colombia...
CHATSWORTH, CA, USA, 21 September 2009 -- Capstone Turbine Corp., a leading global clean technology manufacturer of microturbine energy systems, today announced it received an order for two C800 MicroTurbine® systems for a new 10-story building in Bogota, Colombia.
The total order value is approximately US$1.5 million and is the first sale of Capstone C800 microturbines in Colombia and the second recent order in South America after last month's announcement of three C800 microturbines to a large wastewater treatment plant in Brazil. The ultra low emission C800 microturbines will provide base load electrical power for the building as well as thermal energy for a hot water fired absorption chiller supplying building air conditioning.
Comercial Supernova SA operating as Supernova Energy Services was signed as a Capstone authorized distributor in May and focuses primarily on building efficiency and energy optimization, providing cogeneration based solutions (CHP and CCHP) for the commercial market in hotels, hospitals, offices and retailers in Colombia. Their expertise in air conditioning, integrated with Capstone technology, permits them to significantly reduce the energy bill for clients, HVAC in Colombia typically being the most important fraction of their total energy costs.
"The building houses the Colombian equivalent of the Chamber of Commerce and is part of a 12 building plaza in downtown Bogota," said Nestor Moseres, president of Comercial Supernova SA. "It's significant as this is a high profile new building that is part of Bogota's downtown revitalization initiative and will be a marquee installation to show other customers for several years," added Guillermo Balcazar, President of the Colombian Chamber of Infrastructure during their recent visit to Capstone headquarters.
"It is very impressive that Supernova sold a major project after becoming a Capstone distributor a little over three months ago," said Jim Crouse, Capstone executive vice president of sales. "The project was originally slated for a fuel cell but Supernova convinced the owner to switch to ultra low emission Capstone microturbines after the building was already under construction. They actually stopped construction to evaluate the new Capstone C800 product as they needed to make design changes to the roof to integrate the two microturbines," added Crouse.
"I am extremely pleased with the professionalism and sales effort of our new distributors coming online in Mexico, Brazil and now Colombia," said Capstone president and CEO Darren Jamison. "This is a nice order to receive on the heels of the Fluxo order in Brazil and Industrias Energeticas order in Mexico. These three recent orders from three new distributors total almost US$4 million of new product sales in markets we failed to penetrate in the past. In addition, it indicates that Capstone's products are an ideal solution for Mexico and South America because they provide reliable, ultra clean onsite energy efficient solutions," added Jamison.
The new C800 product provides the same ultra low-emissions and low maintenance benefits as other Capstone products. It features Capstone's patented air bearing, remote monitoring and diagnostic capabilities, and integrated utility synchronization and protection. The small, modular systems allow for easy and low cost installation. Five and nine year Factory Protection Plans (FPP) also are available, providing customers with fixed maintenance costs over the term of the FPP.
