FORT WASHINGTON, PA, Dec. 9, 2004 -- Severn Trent Services has signed an agreement with Lanxess Deutschland GmbH, a chemicals business spun off from Bayer AG, to be the exclusive worldwide distributor of Lanxess' highly effective arsenic and heavy metals removal technology, Bayoxide® E IN-20 media, for wastewater treatment applications. The agreement will enable Severn Trent Services, which already has exclusive global rights to provide Lanxess' Bayoxide E33 media for drinking-water applications, to tap into a large international market for the use of the technology in the industrial sector.

Bayoxide E IN-20 and Bayoxide E33 are dry, robust, crystalline granular ferric oxide media designed with a high capacity for arsenic and heavy metals. When combined with Severn Trent Services' SORB 33TM fixed bed adsorption technology, the media has been proven highly effective in reducing arsenic and heavy metals contamination. The combination of the SORB 33 technology and Bayoxide media has proven to be effective in the United States, Europe and other global markets.

In wastewater applications, Bayoxide E IN-20 effectively adsorbs chemical metallic pollutants and is equally effective with a wide range of effluent found in industrial processes. Target industrial markets for the media include mining, groundwater remediation, chemical processing, semiconductor manufacturing, aquifer storage and recovery, steel production and municipal wastewater.

According to Tom Mills, vice president of marketing and business development for Severn Trent Services, "The Bayoxide E33 media has already proven to be one of the most effective arsenic removing technologies in the world for drinking water applications. We believe the market for use of the Bayoxide E IN-20 media in the industrial wastewater market is enormous. Companies will find this technology helps them meet stringent government guidelines for pollutants in wastewater discharges, such as the EPA's Metal Products and Machinery regulation."
