BILLERICA, MA, March 3 (PRNewswire-FirstCall) -- Mykrolis Corp., a supplier of components and subsystems to the semiconductor industry and spinoff of Millipore Inc., has acquired privately held Extraction Systems Inc. for $25 million in cash.

Based in Franklin, Mass., Extraction's products are used to measure and remove airborne molecular contaminants in the semiconductor manufacturing process. If not precisely controlled, contaminants can cause wafer defects and impact manufacturing yields, as well as damage sensitive semiconductor manufacturing equipment.

According to Jean-Marc Pandraud, president and chief operating officer of Mykrolis, Extraction's equipment and consumable products are used on major lithography exposure tool and track systems found in semiconductor fabs around the world. "The addition of Extraction Systems will fit well with our existing gas microcontamination control business and will increase our product and technology offering in lithography, one of the most rapidly growing areas in the semiconductor industry," said Pandraud.

Devon Kinkead, president of Extraction commented: "Joining Mykrolis accelerates our plans to expand our service to our direct customers in Japan, and end-user customers in Asia since we will be able to leverage Mykrolis's extensive direct sales and support organization. We have also gained immediate access to water purification competencies critical to serving the needs of our lithography customers as they extend their 193nm optical platforms using immersion techniques."

Extraction Systems (www.extractionsystemsinc.com) produces a wide range of molecular contamination measurement and control products for ultraclean environments in the global microelectronics industry.

Mykrolis (www.mykrolis.com), of Billerica, Mass., develops and manufactures fluid management and microcontamination control components and integrated systems for the semiconductor industry. The company's product line comprises consumables and equipment that measure, control and purify liquids, gases and chemicals critical to the manufacturing process. In addition to the semiconductor industry, it serves related markets including manufacturers of flat panel displays, fiber optics, solar cells, optical disks and data storage devices.
