HUNTSVILLE, Ala., April 1, 2004 -- Intergraph Mapping and Geospatial Solutions announced Yarra Valley Water has signed a $1 million (U.S.) contract to deploy G/Water - Intergraph's next-generation solution for water geofacilities management - and GeoMedia® software as the enabling technologies of a comprehensive Geospatial Resource Management (GRM) system.

Located in Melbourne, Australia, Yarra Valley Water owns and maintains approximately 8,600 kilometers of water and 8,200 kilometers of sewerage mains, providing water and sewerage services to 1.5 million people in Melbourne's northern and eastern suburbs.

After evaluation of several GIS solutions, Yarra Valley Water selected Intergraph because its solutions support the company's internal IT strategy dictating enterprisewide integration with Windows® XP, Microsoft® .NET and Oracle® environments, as well as its business goals of increasing customer service and operational efficiency while reducing operational costs.

"We are looking forward to significantly higher performance from our network management system," said Simon Soon, Chief Information Officer, Yarra Valley Water. "With up-to-date, integrated spatial asset information available to our company and customers, we can further improve customer services and productivity in areas such as new connection approvals, planning and rates-settlement statements. The ability to maintain a single system with Intergraph technology will help lower our operations and maintenance costs."

Exemplified by the implementation of a Web-based call center that will be integrated with the new GRM system, Yarra Valley Water's leading-edge technology vision was recently recognized by The Geospatial Information and Technology Association (GITA) in Australia/New Zealand who presented the utility with its prestigious Excellence Award. Intergraph also honored Yarra Valley Water with an award for the company's induction in the 100 Percent Club. The award is bestowed upon utility companies that have achieved full digital conversion of their geofacilities data.

Streamlining operations with enterprisewide data access The GRM system will streamline business analysis, schematics, and mapping and plotting functions, and integrate real-time geospatial data with tabular data from other corporate systems for enterprisewide decision support. Pertinent data will be available to staff across the organization - from engineers who maintain water and sewer assets to planners who determine the location of new services to management for assessing water quality reports or customer complaints.

Next-generation solution links corporate systems In this major GIS upgrade project, G/Water will replace the company's existing Intergraph FRAMME™-based AM/FM/GIS system from which data will be migrated into an open Oracle environment. Intergraph's GeoMedia technology will replace current MapInfo and Xmarc's Formida applications to provide desktop and Web users access to up-to-date, real-time geospatial information from a single environment. GeoMedia technology will also be embedded into systems related to asset and customer relationship management, such as EasyDevelop, EasyAccess, Hansen for asset management and Focus for the mobile work order management systems.
