KANSAS CITY, KS, Sept. 9, 2009 -- EPA has awarded $194,000 to East Prairie, Mo., for improvements to its existing stormwater system.

EPA Region 7 Acting Regional Administrator William Rice said, "EPA is proud to award these water infrastructure funds which will help to protect water quality and extend the useful life of the stormwater system."

Since 2006, four sewer collapses have caused flooding in East Prairie, Mo. These grant funds will help construct improvements which will apply a lining to 1500 feet of the existing storm sewer.

EPA oversees the protection of water quality and public health. The Agency is working with community leaders and the public to meet the growing needs and demands of our limited water resources. EPA remains committed to developing innovative and sustainable solutions for managing and financing infrastructure with public and private partners.
