KUWAIT CITY, Kuwait – Proposals from prequalified bidders have now been received for the new 500,000 m3/day Umm Al Hayman Wastewater Project, according to local sources.
The consortia qualified to participate in the Request for Proposals (RFP) include WTE Wassertechnik GmbH Group, International Financial Advisors KSCC, Kharafi National KSC and Alfanar Company, according to the Kuwait times.
As part of the project, a Kuwaiti public joint-stock company is expected to be established to build, operate and manage the facility for 25 years.
The Umm Al Hayman WWTP will be used to meet an increased demand for wastewater treatment in Kuwait and reduce the discharge of raw wastewater into the environment.
An initial treatment capacity will be designed at 500,000 m3/day, which could be expanded to 700,000 m3/day should the Ministry of Public Works (MPW) identify demand for it.
The project will also include an upgrade and extension of the Egaila pumping station, refurbishment of UAH City pumping station and construction of Sabah Al Ahmed pumpingstation.
Construction of a treated sewage effluent (TSE) transfer and distribution system has also been included in the project specification, suggesting the Kuwaiti authorities are planning for the re-use of TSE.
However the initial stages of the project are behind schedule.
According to the Kuwait Partnerships Technical Bureau, by the first quarter of 2016 the selection of the preferred bidder was scheduled to take place.
