Let's talk about corrosion. Specifically, corrosion in oil and gas.

While any system that contains water, hydrocarbons, and a metal surface would be vulnerable to corrosion; in the oil and gas industry, seawater injection systems are where we see much of the corrosion happening. There are some unique considerations for managing and mitigating corrosive damage in the industry, so I spoke with Dr. Torben Skovhus and Dr. Jason Lee for a WaterWorld podcast.

Dr. Torben Lund Skovhus is Researcher and Project Manager at VIA University College in the Centre of Applied Research & Development in Building, Energy & Environment (Horsens, Denmark). His work is primarily in the areas of microbiology, corrosion and water treatment, and he has written extensively on the topic of microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC) in the oil and gas industries.

Dr Jason Lee is a Materials Engineer at the ‎Naval Research Laboratory, working for the U.S. Navy, the largest consumer of petroleum products in the country. He deals primarily with materials selection.
