DENVER, November 5, 2007 - CH2M Hill, a global full-service engineering, construction and operations firm, has completed the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of the world's first full-scale desalination plant to use large-diameter seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) technology for PowerSeraya Ltd, one of the largest integrated energy companies in the Republic of Singapore. The project was successfully delivered by CH2M Hill as the EPC contractor, over a fast-track schedule of 18 months, from contract signing to plant handover.

"In pursuing PowerSeraya's vision to be the leading integrated energy company based in Singapore, we required a very innovative solution to give us a water capability as part of our product portfolio," said Neil McGregor, PowerSeraya's managing director. "CH2M Hill understood the real value of this partnership, took on the challenge and created the world's first full-scale SWRO. With this new capability, when a full-scale water market evolves in the future, our company looks forward to expanding our relationship with CH2M Hill to give us that edge on the competition."

Located at PowerSeraya's Pulau Seraya Power Station on the petrochemical hub of Jurong Island, the new SWRO desalination plant will produce two customized grades of water: high-grade service water used for power production and domestic drinking water. Capital cost savings of approximately 25 percent were achieved by utilizing the power plant's existing infrastructure of cooling water intake, discharge outfalls and on-site storage tanks. The project encompasses the design, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and operations supervision of the new plant.

"This project is a significant milestone for PowerSeraya and CH2M Hill," said Ho Chee Yon, CH2M Hill's senior project manger. "PowerSeraya is expanding their business portfolio by using this plant to provide utilities, rather than power alone, to their customers. This is CH2M Hill Water Business Group's first design-build project in Asia. We look forward to continuing our partnership between PowerSeraya and CH2M Hill in future projects together."

The desalination plant features granular media filtration pretreatment and a two-pass SWRO system. CH2M Hill selected an innovative SWRO technology, supplied by GrahamTek, for the new SWRO desalination plant. The GrahamTek technology uses 16-inch spiral wound reverse osmosis elements incorporated with an integrated flow distributor and electromagnetic field device. Advantages of this technology include a reduced footprint and capability to operate at higher fluxes than conventional SWRO technologies, resulting in lower capital and operating costs.

Headquartered in Denver, Colo., employee-owned CH2M Hill is a global leader in engineering, construction and operations for public and private clients. The firm's work is concentrated in the areas of transportation, water, energy, environment and industrial facilities.
