Help Control Pipe Corrosion in Drinking Water

May 15, 2020
Online Orthophosphate Analysis

Phosphate is a common additive in the drinking water treatment process because it improves color and taste and reduces scaling from hard water. However, its most important benefit may be its ability to prevent lead and copper corrosion in piping and reduce the risk of harmful chemical exposure to consumers. Online orthophosphate analyzers, such as YSI’s Alyza PO4, can control dosing to ensure optimal residual orthophosphate throughout the distribution network.

The YSI Alyza PO4 can be used to control phosphate dosing directly using its integrated PID function. By utilizing a simple feedback control loop, dosing is automatically increased or decreased based on the analyzer measurement and the desired phosphate residual set point. This method ensures that the desired phosphate residual is maintained and reduces the risks associated with improper dosing. With the Alyza PO4, operators can expect a reliable and accurate orthophosphate measurement to control their phosphate dosing. In addition, Alyza reduces maintenance requirements and lowers reagent consumption with the newly designed MultiPort valve and IV-style reagent bags. WW
