American Water Employees Give Back to Their Communities During Largest Ever Month of Service

Month of Service Events Make Impact in Local Communities Across 14 states and Canada

American Water, the nation’s largest publicly traded water and wastewater utility company, held its companywide AmerICANs in Action! Month of Service employee volunteer event in September. A record-breaking 2,266 American Water employees participated in 116 different projects contributing more than 4,000 volunteer hours.

AmerICANs in Action! continues the company’s efforts to create a lasting, positive impact for the customers and the communities the company serves as part of its ongoing Corporate Responsibility program. The effort encourages teams of employees to volunteer in the communities where they live and work. In its sixth year, this year’s event set a record for participation.

Employees demonstrated a diverse range of skills through projects that included a lake cleanup in New York, a food drive in Pennsylvania, a toy drive in Illinois, decorating care packages for soldiers in Kentucky, a community garden project in California, a repair and clean up of a children’s park in West Virginia and mentoring in Indiana. Many employees also volunteered at animal shelters, while others teamed up with their local Ronald McDonald House and Boys and Girls Club.
