Wasser Berlin International is Germany’s international water event, featuring exhibitors and representatives, as well as products from the entire water cycle under one roof. This year’s program takes place March 28-31 in Berlin, Germany. In 2015, the biennial event attracted more than 550 exhibitors from 26 countries and over 22,600 visitors from 104 countries. That number is expected to increase this year, as a number of past exhibitors return to participate in the international program.

Visitors to Wasser Berlin include: water management decision makers from the public and industrial sectors; engineers; building trades, civil engineering, well drilling, waterworks construction and other field specialists; representatives from national and international organizations; and representatives from industry associations, institutions, science and research. The exhibitor hall is an opportunity for companies to showcase new products and technologies, and for attendees to share knowledge and network with one another.

Key areas of focus for 2017 include: water infrastructure, pipeline construction, ‘no dig’ and water extraction. New this year is an Innovation Plaza, a space designated for holding creative meetings and exchanging new ideas. Surrounding the meeting space, displays will feature new products, services and technical innovations from both long-standing companies and startups. The exhibition will be supplemented by a forum where short presentations from participating companies and organizations can reach a wide audience.

On Wednesday, March 29, 2017, a Flood Management Symposium will examine management of extreme weather events and heavy rainfall. The symposium is being organized by the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK), who, along with the Royal Dutch Embassy, will provide detailed information on government disaster preparation for such events.

Using the city of Cologne as an example, the emergency drinking water supply concept will be on display, including all the equipment required for a well that can independently supply drinking water without electricity. The symposium will also feature an advanced risk analysis method for municipal water authorities, highlighting the importance of creating a contingency plan and preparation for emergency water supplies against the backdrop of a long-term loss of electrical power, for example.

Also on Wednesday, the International Ozone Symposium will provide an international forum for scientists, engineers, consultants, water suppliers and manufacturers with an interest in fundamental and applied aspects of oxidation technologies involving ozone and related oxidants to come together and discuss major developments in the field. From the program guide: “This event will provide an overview of the current state of knowledge and latest advances regarding the use of ozone and advanced oxidation for providing sustainable solutions to a range of significant societal issues related to water, energy, health and environment.”

Additionally, plant tours, workshops and educational sessions (some at an additional cost) will round out the event, with topics touching every aspect of the water industry.
