Earth Tech, a provider of consulting, engineering and construction services, has been selected to provide a full range of design and consulting services for a regional wastewater treatment plant located in Mississauga, Ontario. The value of the contract is approximately $9 million.
Under terms of the contract, Earth Tech will be responsible for design, site supervision, contract administration, commissioning, and post-construction support.
The plant, which is being expanded from 43 mgd to 53 mgd design flow and upgraded to achieve a nitrified non-toxic effluent, is expected to be completed in the summer of 2006. Once complete, the plant will accommodate the rapidly increasing population of the Region of Peel in Ontario, provide an economical biosolids management system, and will be fully compliant with air quality standards.
"The wastewater treatment infrastructure of Canada continues to require investment to keep pace with our population growth," said Rob Andrews, head of Earth Tech's operations in Canada. "Our expertise in building wastewater treatment facilities for cities around the world will be an important asset as we work to help improve the water supply services for the residents of the Peel Region of Ontario."
The Region of Peel is the second largest municipality in Ontario, comprised of nearly one million residents in the cities of Brampton, Mississauga, and Caledon.
