WATERBURY, CT, July 24, 2003 -- As part of its ongoing commitment to provide localized learning and training to water resources professionals in Latin America, Haestad Methods recently held water distribution and sanitary sewer modeling courses in Sao Paulo, Brazil, June 9-13.

The workshops were designed to provide attendees with a comprehensive view of hydraulic theory, modeling techniques, and computer technology.

Close to sixty attendees participated in the Portuguese-language workshops earning a Master Modeler Certificate for each three-day course completed and an A+ Modeler Certificate for each two-day course. Participants represented a variety of key management, consultant, and engineering positions from major municipalities and consulting firms in the region including SABESP, CAESB, SEMAE, CASAN, SAAE, SAMAE, CORSAN, and Aguas de Niteroi.

Dr. Edmundo Koelle, a leading figure in the Brazilian water resources industry, presented on critical water system supply issues in the region. Based on demand for high-quality water resources training, Dr. Koelle and Haestad Methods are organizing additional workshops in Brazil to accommodate those on the waiting list, as well as others, during the second half of 2003.

Remarking on the success of the recent training programs, Odir Freitas of Log Engenharia LTDA, said, "The workshop in Sao Paulo exceeded my expectations. I can reassure you that Haestad is the best reference globally for water distribution modeling." Kasuyoshi Massuyama of Argos Eng SC Ltda. added, "Excellent workshop with a high level of technology from a very professional company. Professor Koelle's presence guaranteed a high-workshop standard."

While in Brazil, Haestad Methods also conducted a Modeling Social with a record-breaking attendance of over 200 professionals. Client presentations at the gathering further demonstrated the importance of modeling to effectively manage water distribution and wastewater collection systems. SABESP, the largest water utility in Brazil and the one responsible for managing most of the water and wastewater facilities in the state of Sao Paulo, gave the keynote presentation. Local engineers from DAEV (Departamento de Aguas e Esgotos de Valinhos); HagaPlan Planejamento e Projetos S/C Ltda.; and Koelle Engineering gave additional presentations on how they apply Haestad Methods' modeling technology for water distribution, sanitary sewer, and urban stormwater applications.

"The development of our training programs is a result of Haestad Methods' efforts to identify and meet the water resources needs of the Brazilian community," said Norelis Florentino, Latin American Markets Director for Haestad Methods. "Haestad's certified instructors have conducted similar training workshops throughout other countries in Latin America with tremendous success, and it is rewarding to see similar results achieved in Brazil."
