New Mexico's largest city is giving its citizens a new way receive immediate alerts on utility consumption thanks to its Cognos-powered 24 x7 public Extranet.
Working with Cognos, the City of Albuquerque has deployed a sophisticated automatic alerting system that gives citizens immediate notification via computer or wireless device when a utility bill is issued.
City of Albuquerque, a long-time Cognos Enterprise BI Series 7 user, has deployed the industry's broadest business intelligence solution to enable 24x7 Web-based analysis and reporting on criminal statistics, tax revenue, campaign reporting, development applications and vendor services. Continuing to extend its innovative e-government site, the new utility payment system also provides key decision-makers within the water and solid waste departments with nightly updates on the status of citizens' payments via the Internet.
According to Nucleus Research, a Wellesley, Massachusetts-based firm that evaluates financial return on IT assets, the City of Albuquerque achieved a nearly 2,000% ROI from its overall Cognos Enterprise BI Series 7 deployment by reducing administrative overhead and identifying other cost-savings opportunities.
"Cognos Enterprise BI Series 7 continues to deliver for city officials looking for new ways to keep our populace informed. Our IT team has yet again delivered an innovative new solution that will offer residents immediate updates around their utility consumption," said Mayor Martin Chavez, City of Albuquerque. "Because of the incredible usability of Cognos, everyone from citizens to key decision-makers in my office, to department personnel can get a high degree of visibility to the information that will help them make better decisions faster. In addition, Cognos offers a system that can scale to address the unique requirements of a 24x7 environment."
