KANSAS CITY, KS, Oct. 5, 2009 -- EPA has awarded $477,000 to Joplin, Mo., for the construction of the Wildwood Ranch sewer system.

Wildwood Ranch is a proposed 2,075-acre development on the border of Jasper and Newton counties, both of which have approved the rezoning for this site. EPA Region 7 Acting Regional Administrator William Rice said, "EPA is proud to award these water infrastructure funds which will help to protect public health and the water quality in the Joplin, Mo., area."

EPA oversees the protection of water quality and public health. The Agency is working with community leaders and the public to meet the growing needs and demands of our limited water resources. EPA remains committed to developing innovative and sustainable solutions for managing and financing infrastructure with public and private partners.
