Stantec has been selected by the Los Angeles Bureau of Sanitation (LASAN) to provide engineering and project delivery services for Pure Water Los Angeles, a potable reuse initiative designed to expand the city’s locally sourced water supply.

The program aims to produce up to 230 million gallons per day (MGD) of purified recycled water and support Los Angeles’ goal of obtaining 70% of its water supply from local sources. The city currently sources about 50% of its water locally, with the remainder coming from imported supplies.

Stantec and engineering partner Carollo Engineers will provide program management and conceptual design services to upgrade the Hyperion Water Reclamation Plant from secondary treatment to an advanced water treatment (AWT) facility.

The team will also provide operations and maintenance and regulatory support for LASAN’s Hyperion membrane bioreactor (MBR) Pilot Facility. The pilot is intended to support regulatory approval and inform the design of the full-scale AWT facility.

Pure Water Los Angeles is intended to reduce the city’s reliance on imported water while increasing supply resilience amid climate variability and future water challenges. The project is part of a broader expansion of potable reuse across Southern California.
