ROWLAND HEIGHTS, CA -- Proactive staff training to create a safer work environment earned Rowland Water District a $9,526 reimbursement from the Association of California Water Agencies-Joint Powers Insurance Authority (ACWA-JPIA).
A representative of the insurance provider presented the District’s Board of Directors with a check during its regular meeting on Tuesday, April 13. The money is a credit for Rowland Water’s training courses in safety and administration.
“Rowland Water District is committed to workforce safety standards and we are proud of the ongoing, quality training programs that protect our team members and the community,” General Manager Tom Coleman said. “The result is fewer insurance claims, reduced risk and money back for the District – it’s a win-win for all, including our customers.”
The check was presented by Randall Reed, a Board member at ACWA-JPIA and Cucamonga Valley Water District in Rancho Cucamonga.
“Increased employee training like that conducted by Rowland Water District is a critical element in reducing liability claims across our industry,” he said. “By working proactively to prevent accidents and improve operations, JPIA is able to return the savings to our member agencies.”
ACWA-JPIA has issued $6.2 million in training-related reimbursements statewide this year.
The insurance authority is a risk-sharing pool for property, liability, workers’ compensation, and employee benefits, which allows for more rate stability, broader coverage and expanded benefits and services than private insurance.
