Brasfield & Gorrie celebrates construction milestones at central wastewater treatment plant

Nashville plant’s improvement project will increase peak treatment capacity by 100 million gallons per day.

NASHVILLE, TN -- Brasfield & Gorrie and Metro Water Services recently celebrated several construction milestones at Nashville’s Central Wastewater Treatment Plant, including:

  • Completion of all major structural concrete for the plant’s new headworks facility.
  • Completion of the plant’s new maintenance facility.
  • Surpassing 50 percent complete on the balance of the plant construction project.

Brasfield & Gorrie is the construction manager-at-risk on the plant’s improvement project, which will increase peak treatment capacity by 100 million gallons per day. The improvements to existing wastewater treatment process units throughout the plant include significant process mechanical and concrete upgrades surrounding aeration, new UV disinfection, testing, start-up and commissioning. Brasfield & Gorrie has self-performed these significant process improvement upgrades on the project and is the CMAR to all other major upgrades. By using its own forces to complete work, the contractor has greater control over a project’s budget and schedule.

“Water is an essential resource, and treatment plants serve communities by providing clean water for the local environment and watershed. Brasfield & Gorrie is grateful to play a part in serving the people in and around Nashville, where we have worked for more than 20 years,” said Brasfield & Gorrie Vice President and Division Manager Ben Harris.

The Central Wastewater Treatment Plant project is scheduled for completion in late 2023.
