Aluminum cover

Enviroquip's AirbeamRegistered cover system combines Hallsten's flat aluminum covers with Enviroquip's TransmaxRegistered coarse bubble diffusers to produce a digester which protects operators and minimizes enclosed air volume. The covers feature interlocking extrusions with minimal air volumes for odor control. Virtually all piping is internal with the structural beams used for air supply and removal.

Bench respirometer

Arthur Technology provides Activated Sludge Performance Evaluations using the company's bench respirometers. The tests can provide a timely look into the biological portion of the treatment process and an early awareness of the source of problems causing poor sludge settling or decreased viability of sludge. The tests also can give advance warning of the long-term effects of toxicity and high organic loads, poor treatability and inefficient aeration. The performance evaluation is conducted under the daily supervision of company staff, who guide technicians from the client's wastewater plant through the test procedures.

Package treatment system

USFilter offers the ActiFloctrademark system, which can treat surface water with high color, high TOC, or turbidity up to 1,000 NTU, with spikes to 3,000 NTU. The process combines the Actiflo clarification process and the Microfloc Mixed Media filter. The ActiFloc package plants are available in steel modular tanks of 0.25 to 4 MGD sizes. All are compact, with footprints only 20 percent the size of conventional systems of equivalent capacity. The plants feature instantaneous startup and chemical optimization within 15 minutes. A survey of more than 50 installations suggests that chemical use is reduced by 20 to 50 percent compared to conventional systems.

Solar Light has introduced a compact system to monitor and measure the output and thus germicidal effectiveness of UV lamps and arrays used in water and wastewater treatment. The GLM 100 UV Lamp Monitoring System is comprised of the new UW254 Submersible Detector and the new LM100 UV Lamp Monitor electronics unit. The 254-nm spectral response of the detector is designed to measure the region used for germicidal radiation to kill microorganisms. An LED display provides visual indication of lamp performance as 0 to 100 % of values. The unit also provides a 4-20 mA output for connection to control systems.

Thread sealants

Ridge Tool recently introduced a new line of thread sealants, available in two versions: a gray, non-Teflon version for metal pipes and a white, Teflon version for all types of pipe. Designed to lubricate and seal threaded joints on water lines, the new sealants will not harden, crack or shrink. Formulated for use in potable water applications, the sealants will not degrade chemically. They are able to withstand fluid pressures up to 10,000 psi. The sealants are available in 6 ounce cans and 8, 12 and 32 ounce brush-in cans. The Ridgid thread sealants are UPC and NSF listed.
