Biological Phosphorus Removal Helps Metro Water Recovery Meet Environmental Regulations

Sept. 22, 2021
Metro Water Recovery's Robert W. Hite Treatment Facility employed Centysys/CNP's Magprex process and centrifuge for phosphorus removal and treatment.

When struvite accumulation in the pipes and digesters became a serious maintenance problem for Metro Water Recovery's Robert W. Hite Treatment Facility, operators employed Centysys/CNP's Magprex process and centrifuge as a sustainable alternative to their current phosphorus removal and treatment. Since coming online in November 2020, the plant has realized a total phosphorus limit of 0.4 mg/L and a 25% reduction in overall polymer consumption with the process, well below the state limit of 1 mg/L.
